Forks Of The Credit Provincial Park: Early Morning Winter Scenes

forks of the credit provincial park

I went for the sunrise. Seems to be the way I start a lot of articles these days. For a brief moment, in the quiet, cold meadows of Forks Of The Credit Provincial Park, the sky was painted with colour from the rising sun. In true Southern Ontario snow belt fashion, while that sun was rising, it was also snowing.

Shortly after the bright orb rose above the horizon, the clouds that were bringing the snow from the opposite direction covered up the light. It was not an utter disappointment.

I came away from some decent photos, for the first time in probably forever not photographing any of the feature waterfalls on the Credit River. Some of my favourites are in the gallery below. Further down is a video made up of clips taken at the same time.

The new WordPress 5.0 Gutenberg editor goes about creating image galleries a bit different. The top two right side images are actually in landscape and not portrait. If you click on the images, you’ll get a full-size view of the individual photo.

Forks Of The Credit Provincial Park

This park is located west of Caledon, east of Erin, north of Brampton and south of Orangeville in the Canadian province of Ontario. A day-use park operated by Ontario Parks, there is no camping and few washroom facilities. Still, it’s an operating park which means fees come with visiting. That is, unless you do the extra legwork and go in the secret back way.

The Bruce Trail weaves through the park on its way from Niagara-On-The-Lake to Tobermory. There are several side trails that take hikers through varying environments within the park.

Twisting through is the Credit River and the highlight of Forks of the Credit is Churches Falls. The waterfall is located at the north end, basically in the hamlet of Cataract. The waterfall is surrounded by the ruins of a former hydro-electric plant. The drop has also been off-limits to visitors for the past few years as the observation platform threatens to slide down the cliff to the river.

Forks Of The Credit Sunrise Video

The following video was taken on the same morning as the images above. The footage of the snow falling at the sunrise actually works better in video form than as a still image.
